Hello! And welcome to Another Thing That Interests Me!
Contrary to the title, this blog is not concerned with objects of mere interest. We here are devoted to strong feelings, to love and hate (and nothing in between), and to the serious arguments needed to justify those feelings. These posts will be about objects of passion, cultural items that are significant both because they are popular – somehow part of our zeitgeist - and because they are deserving of a reaction larger than a shrug.
Another Thing That Interests Me is little interested in reiterating past arguments, so — theoretically — these essays should be a little bit controversial. And while we’ll try to avoid being too “academic,” we do feel that the arguments are just as important as the passions. These essays will justify our feelings with as much rigor as we can muster. This is a blog that lays the intellectual track for emotion to ride in on. Another Thing That Interests Me is interested in acknowledging the merits of something popular and then dismantling it, in acknowledging the flaws of something maligned and then redeeming it. This blog cares about pinpointing and situating the anguish and joy, the pleasure and pain that we all experience in the sphere we call popular culture.
